Position Overview:

The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking an Operational Support Specialist to join our Mission Support division. This role operates on a 4x10 schedule, allowing for a work-life balance with every Friday off.

As a premier national laboratory for the Department of Energy, INL is at the forefront of nuclear research and development, facilitating advancements in nuclear technology. Our Materials and Fuels Complex is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a diverse team dedicated to pioneering nuclear fuel research and development.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will undertake various tasks that support operational functions. You will be expected to uphold leadership principles and Human Performance Improvement (HPI) practices. Proficiency in Conduct of Operations, Maintenance Procedures, Integrated Safety Management Systems (ISMS), and Occurrence Reporting is essential.

  • Lead and schedule assessments, providing direction to team members involved.
  • Identify potential risks affecting management systems and create assurance plans for effective risk mitigation.
  • Analyze performance data to provide insights to leadership.
  • Oversee safe and compliant execution of operational tasks, ensuring adherence to procedural guidelines.
  • Verify that team members possess the necessary training and are prepared for their roles.
  • Ensure that non-operations personnel conduct their activities in accordance with established operational standards.
  • Promote continuous improvement of operational procedures and safety programs.
  • Maintain safety compliance and facility configuration, identifying and mitigating hazards.
  • Review and provide input on facility operational documentation.
  • Communicate regularly with management regarding facility issues and propose solutions.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by management.
  • Act as an alternate for critical oversight roles, managing safety controls and operational aspects.
  • Qualify as a reviewer/approver for Unreviewed Safety Questions (USQ).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited institution, along with 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in an operational or technical capacity.
  • Equivalent education and experience may be considered in exceptional cases.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a technical field.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, SharePoint, Tableau, or Primavera P6.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary range for this position is: Level 420 ($54,876-$107,064) / Level 430 ($63,528-$130,284), determined by education and experience.
