Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Senior Corporate Counsel to lead our Trade Compliance team. The successful candidate will provide legal advice and support on trade laws, export/import controls, sanctions, and anti-bribery and anti-corruption matters. This is a unique opportunity to work with a global leader in the electric vehicle and energy storage industry.
Key Responsibilities- Provide legal advice and counseling on trade laws, export/import controls, sanctions, and anti-bribery and anti-corruption matters.
- Conduct and support trade compliance risk assessments and audits, and develop remediation or corrective action plans.
- Monitor and keep current on the rapidly evolving trade compliance environment, and communicate with stakeholders on the impact of changes.
- Support the development of trade compliance policies, procedures, and automated systems.
- Lead interactions with trade compliance government regulators, and prepare and manage responses to internal and external audits and government inquiries.
- Draft, review, and advise on trade compliance provisions within contracts and transaction documentation.
- Support compliance due diligence reviews of third parties and counterparties.
- Legal or equivalent degree.
- Admitted to the bar in a relevant jurisdiction and in good standing.
- 4-6 years post-graduate work experience in either private firms or corporate environment.
- Experience working with anti-bribery/anti-corruption, export/import trade compliance, trade agreement, countries of restrictions (sanctions, embargo), tariff, anti-money laundering, anti-corruption, etc.
- Additional language capabilities in French, German, Japanese, Spanish, and/or Mandarin an asset.
- Deep understanding of trade compliance regulatory regimes in the USA, with experience in non-US based environments an asset.
- Experience in program development and implementation, preferably with a global perspective.
