Ameriprise Financial is seeking a Head of Employee Relations Strategy to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee a dedicated group of Employee Relations specialists within our global Employee Relations framework, tasked with addressing workplace-related challenges, formulating policies, and managing severance processes.
This position is responsible for recommending, developing, implementing, and guiding all facets of employee relations programs and Human Resources policies across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of experts offering guidance and support to management on sensitive employee matters, including policy interpretation, conflict resolution, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
- Collaborate closely with the employment law division within the General Counsel's Organization to provide resources, tools, and development programs that support strategic initiatives and objectives.
- Supervise investigative professionals and work with cross-functional teams to provide consultation on policy development, communications, and employment-related investigations.
- Establish standards and evaluate performance metrics for Employee Relations managers handling inquiries and escalated issues, reporting trends to senior leadership.
- Conduct employee relations investigations and manage casework for designated business units, serving as an escalation point for complex cases.
- Consult with Human Resources and business leaders to ensure alignment of employee relations processes with business goals, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in broader Human Resources initiatives, which may involve the development and implementation of programs and training that impact employee relations.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of employment laws and regulations, developing policies and communications for employees.
- Provide strategic advice and expertise to ensure the effective management of best practice programs and initiatives.
- Offer strong leadership to direct reports, including mentoring, development, and performance management.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent (4 years) with 7 to 10 years of relevant experience.
- Previous leadership experience with advanced knowledge in Employee/Labor law, compliance requirements, and Human Resources trends.
- Exceptional investigative skills and experience managing complex employee relations issues.
- Proven track record in planning, developing, and executing Employee Relations and Policy initiatives in large organizations.
- Experience in crafting executive-level communications related to significant investigations or projects.
- Ability to effectively challenge and influence leadership to ensure fair treatment.
- Strong time management skills with the capacity to balance multiple priorities and adapt to changing environments.
- High level of confidentiality, integrity, and sound judgment.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or equivalent (6 years) with a focus in Human Resources, Organizational Effectiveness, or Business.
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification.
- Experience leading or supporting global employee relations activities.
