Position Overview

The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for delivering financial aid services to students by assessing and processing financial aid applications, determining eligibility, and creating financial aid packages.

This role involves providing consultation and direct support to students, faculty, and staff, as well as communicating detailed financial aid information to various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

1. Assess and process financial aid applications, determining eligibility for federal and state aid, and packaging awards using professional judgment.

2. Analyze application data, FAFSA comments, and federal database matches to evaluate financial need and academic progress.

3. Prevent over-awards by ensuring timely and accurate reviews of all aid types prior to awarding.

4. Provide exceptional customer service to students, demonstrating empathy and professionalism in all interactions.

5. Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA regulations.

6. Assist with outreach initiatives to educate students about financial aid and scholarship opportunities.

7. Perform additional duties as required to support the team in achieving its objectives.


Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

- Associate's degree from an accredited institution.

- Two years of experience in a financial aid office or related field, or equivalent education and experience.

- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.


Preferred Qualifications:

- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.


Conditions of Employment:

- Successful completion of a criminal history background check is required prior to employment.
