Position Overview

The Center for Cancer Cell Biology, Immunology, and Infection within the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science is seeking applications for a Research Scientist role at the postdoctoral level.

The successful candidate will engage in investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying HIV infection and its effects on the central nervous system.

In line with our commitment to expanding research capabilities at RFU and facilitating the translation of basic science research into diagnostics, therapeutics, and biomarker identification to improve human health, we inaugurated a new Innovation and Research Park (IRP) in January 2020. This state-of-the-art facility enables academic researchers to work in proximity to industry researchers within a 100,000 sq ft building, which also houses our Helix 51 Incubator, a new bioscience incubator for startups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead independent research initiatives and conduct experiments that contribute to the laboratory's objectives.
  • Plan, execute, collect data, analyze results, and prepare manuscripts independently.
  • Mentor and support incoming graduate students.
  • Conduct specific research activities autonomously, including:
    • Managing mouse colonies, including genotyping, and analyzing biological samples.
    • Performing cell cultures and ectopic protein expression analyses, such as Western blotting.
    • Utilizing advanced molecular techniques, including cloning and genomics technologies.
    • Purifying and expressing recombinant proteins.
    • Conducting immunofluorescence microscopy.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Microbiology and Immunology.
  • 0-1 year of post-PhD experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong English reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with viruses and their propagation.
  • Commitment to inclusiveness and ability to work within diverse cultural and social environments.
  • Experience with mouse models.
  • At least one primary author and one co-author publication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Microbiology and Immunology.
