Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Highway Maintenance Supervisor to oversee and perform a variety of simple to complex roadway maintenance activities in the Fancy Hill/Kerrs Creek Area Headquarters. As the successful candidate, you will supervise a crew and provide technical guidance to crew members performing maintenance activities and equipment operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a crew and provide technical guidance to crew members performing maintenance activities and equipment operation.
  • Oversee and perform a variety of simple to complex roadway maintenance activities.
  • Direct, evaluate, and train others.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
  • Manage inventory and perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Skilled in the use of computers and software applications.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Skilled in operating and maintaining light to heavy duty trucks and equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual labor.
  • Ability to direct, evaluate, and train others.
  • Safety shoes required.
  • Considerable knowledge of roadway maintenance and construction practices and procedures.
  • Ability to obtain valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Management, Maintenance, Construction, or related field.
  • DCR Erosion and Sediment Control certification.
  • Experience supervising others and evaluating performance.
  • Experience planning schedules and assigning manpower.
  • Ability to gather data, conduct research, and create reports.
  • Experience overseeing emergency operations activities including snow removal, storm damage, and accident clean-up.
  • Inventory management experience.
  • Experience in roadway maintenance and, or construction activities.
