Key Responsibilities

The Speech Language Pathologist is a full-time, exempt role for 10 months during the academic year. This position focuses on assisting children with communication disorders in language, articulation, fluency, and voice, which can hinder their educational progress.

Role Expectations
  • Conduct screenings to identify students with speech and language disorders.
  • Create Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with identified needs, outlining long-term goals and short-term objectives tailored to each child's requirements.
  • Develop therapeutic strategies to help students achieve the goals set in their IEPs.
  • Provide speech and language therapy services as specified in the IEP, in both group and individual settings, focusing on remediation of deficits while integrating classroom learning to enhance communication skills.
  • Collaborate with team members and engage with parents.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all professional activities.
  • Prepare a speech progress report every nine weeks, totaling four reports per academic year.
  • Communicate and clarify speech assessment services and evaluation results to parents, educators, and relevant personnel.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities at local and state levels as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Speech/Language Pathology is required; a Master's degree is strongly preferred.
  • Experience as a speech therapist in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Certification as a Speech/Language Pathologist is required.
  • Must be licensed in Louisiana as a Speech/Language Pathologist by the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
  • Familiarity with federal regulations, state guidelines, and local district policies is essential.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic methods, instructional strategies, and behavioral modifications is important.
  • Comprehensive understanding of communication disorders, including language, phonological processes, articulation, voice, and fluency.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary.
