Success in This Role

The Speech Language Pathologist is a full-time, exempt role for 10 months during the academic year. This position focuses on working with students who have communication disorders affecting their educational success in areas such as language, articulation, fluency, and voice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct screenings to identify students with speech and language disorders.
  • Create Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for identified students, outlining long-term goals and short-term objectives tailored to each child's needs.
  • Develop treatment strategies aimed at helping students achieve the goals set in their IEPs.
  • Provide speech and language therapy services as specified in the IEP, conducting both group and individual sessions focused on remediation and enhancing communication skills.
  • Collaborate with team members and communicate with parents.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all professional activities.
  • Prepare a speech progress report every nine weeks, totaling four reports per academic year.
  • Interpret and explain speech assessment services and evaluation results to parents, teachers, and relevant personnel.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities at local and state levels as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Speech/Language Pathology required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience as a speech therapist in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Certification as a Speech/Language Pathologist is required.
  • Must be licensed in Louisiana as a Speech/Language Pathologist by the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
  • Familiarity with federal laws, state guidelines, and local district policies is essential.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, instructional modifications, and behavioral accommodations is necessary.
  • Comprehensive understanding of communication disorders, including language, phonological processes, articulation, voice, and fluency.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
