Key Responsibilities of the Role

The Speech Language Pathologist is a full-time, exempt role for a duration of 10 months during the academic year. This position is focused on supporting students with communication challenges in areas such as language, articulation, fluency, and voice, which may hinder their academic progress.

Role Expectations
  • Assess students to identify those with speech and language impairments.
  • Create Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students identified with communication disorders, outlining long-term goals and short-term objectives tailored to each child's needs.
  • Develop therapeutic strategies to assist students in achieving the goals set forth in their IEPs.
  • Provide speech and language therapy services in accordance with the IEP, conducting both group and individual sessions focused on addressing areas of need while integrating classroom learning to enhance communication skills.
  • Collaborate and consult with colleagues and parents regarding student progress.
  • Maintain precise and confidential documentation of all professional activities.
  • Prepare and distribute speech progress reports every nine weeks, totaling four reports per academic year.
  • Communicate assessment results and evaluation findings to parents, educators, administrators, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities at local and state levels as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology is required; a Master's degree is highly preferred.
  • Experience as a speech therapist in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist is necessary.
  • Must be licensed in Louisiana as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
  • Familiarity with federal regulations, state guidelines, and local district policies is essential.
  • Knowledge of assessment procedures, instructional strategies, and behavioral modifications is important.
  • Comprehensive understanding of communication disorders, including language, phonological processes, articulation, voice, and fluency.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
