EVENT SECURITY OFFICER (ESO)

POSITION SUMMARY: Are you passionate about art and dedicated to providing exceptional service? The Seattle Art Museum is looking for enthusiastic individuals to enhance visitor experiences at our esteemed art venues.
The Event Security Officer will ensure the safety and security of the Seattle Art Museum, the Seattle Asian Art Museum, and the Olympic Sculpture Park during various private events and museum programming. This role involves enforcing security protocols to protect artwork, maintain facility security, and ensure the safety of both staff and visitors.

NO PRIOR SECURITY EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The Seattle Art Museum offers FLEXIBLE scheduling, museum membership, and exclusive access to our remarkable exhibitions. Due to fluctuating demand, Event Security Officers will have varying hours each week based on the event calendar. Availability on weekends and late nights is essential. This is an event-driven position, typically requiring 10-15 hours per week, making it ideal for students or those seeking supplementary income.

COMPENSATION: $21.68 per hour

BENEFITS: Part-time regular employees may enroll in our 403b plan and accrue sick and vacation leave at a rate of .0385 per hour worked. Employees receive twelve paid holidays and one floating holiday annually, compensated on a pro-rated basis. Additional benefits include a subsidized ORCA card, access to fitness facilities, and museum membership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Monitor galleries, public areas, meeting rooms, and queues during events through active patrolling and positioning. Control access to private event spaces and ensure compliance with museum policies.
  2. Foster cooperative and respectful relationships with staff and volunteers, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all patrons and guests.
  3. Assist visitors and address any issues as they arise.
  4. Deliver outstanding customer service and utilize de-escalation techniques to manage potential conflicts.
  5. Monitor artwork for any changes and report issues to the supervisor for immediate action.
  6. Collaborate with Visitor Experience and Membership teams to enhance visitor engagement.
  7. Escort contractors and vendors through restricted areas, ensuring adherence to access protocols.
  8. Stay informed about current policies and security systems to effectively protect art and ensure the safety of all.
  9. Document incidents and notable occurrences, responding to emergency calls as needed.
  10. Complete detailed incident reports for any occurrences.
  11. Participate in emergency training programs, including fire and earthquake evacuation, and active shooter preparedness.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or GED.
  2. Proven customer service skills.
  3. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.
  4. Capable of preparing clear and accurate incident reports.
  5. Ability to exercise independent judgment in enforcing regulations.
  6. Dependable and reliable.
  7. Excellent judgment in implementing established security and safety protocols.
  8. Adaptable and flexible in a dynamic, event-driven environment.
  9. Detail-oriented with a commitment to confidentiality.
  10. Calm under pressure, with the ability to resolve customer complaints effectively.
  11. Commitment to museum policies and a positive approach to management decisions.
  12. Ability to pass a security background check.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work primarily occurs indoors in a climate-controlled setting with moderate background noise. Some duties may require work at various indoor and outdoor locations in diverse weather conditions.
Availability for nights, weekends, and holidays is necessary, with part-time variable hours based on museum events.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Approximately 95% of the time involves standing or moving throughout the work area, with the remaining time spent at a desk. Long periods of standing are expected.
Effective communication with staff, donors, members, and the public is essential, including potential interactions with challenging individuals.
Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary for effective computer use.
Ability to occasionally lift up to twenty pounds for moving files and equipment, and to navigate stairs in a multi-level building.
Proficient operation of assigned equipment, including radios and dispatch software, is required.
