Position Overview

The Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law is in search of a Legal Support Specialist dedicated to serving within a nonprofit organization focused on social justice. This role involves providing essential administrative assistance to the Center's direct client services under the guidance of the Director of Legal Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate administrative tasks related to client services, such as processing retainer agreements, tracking documents, preparing exhibits, and summarizing legal documents;
  • Offer legal support for client services, including electronic filing, drafting legal pleadings, and conducting client interviews.

Required Qualifications:

  • One of the following:
    • Paralegal Certification;
    • Bachelor's degree with at least one year of experience in a legal environment under the supervision of a licensed attorney, with a verification letter available upon request.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment;
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and strong organizational abilities;
  • Empathy and understanding towards individuals in crisis, with a commitment to public interest work;
  • Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and web-based case management systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish (both oral and written);
  • Experience with electronic filing in the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Position Details:

  • Full-time, non-exempt role, requiring 37.5 hours per week;
  • Compensation range of $50,000 to $60,000, based on experience, with benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan options, paid vacation, and educational reimbursements.

Work Environment: Hybrid model, with office presence required.
