Safety Program Coordinator

Position Overview

The primary goal of the Safety Program Coordinator is to ensure a safe and healthy work environment while effectively managing the WPI Safety Program to foster a collaborative and trusting atmosphere for all personnel involved.
  • Adhere to and uphold all WPI policies, procedures, and corporate safety initiatives.
  • Guarantee full compliance with WPI Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Act as the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) contact for the project.
  • Conduct safety and equipment training sessions on-site and maintain accurate training documentation.
  • Oversee the incident investigation process to ensure thorough root-cause analysis, implementation of corrective actions, and dissemination of lessons learned.
  • Promote an injury-free workplace by cultivating positive relationships with office personnel, project managers, general contractors, subcontractors, and trade workers.
  • Assist in the execution of the site-specific health and safety plan.
  • Support the project foreperson in identifying and mitigating high-risk activities, and develop, review, or approve job hazard analyses and pre-task plans.
  • Conduct and formally document safety audits on the project, ensuring resolution of any identified action items. Ensure compliance with EHS Program, as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Facilitate the implementation of work control permits and evaluation processes.
  • Engage proactively with General Contractor Safety Managers to achieve mutual safety culture improvement goals.
  • Oversee the on-site drug and alcohol testing program.
  • Participate in all required meetings.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:
  • Possession of one of the following Board of Certified Safety Professionals designations: CST, CHST, OHST, STS-C, ASP.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant project safety experience on projects of similar size and construction type.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Comprehensive understanding of EHS programs, practices, and regulations applicable to the project.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and recognize conflicts, seeking guidance when necessary.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are mandatory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment is required.
  • Excellent customer service skills are necessary.
  • Capability to multitask, think critically, and solve problems is essential.
  • Ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and follow through on all assignments is required.
  • Strong organizational skills and computer proficiency, with a high level of competency in reading, writing, and speaking English, as well as interpreting safety documentation and communicating with colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Local candidates are preferred.
