Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Medical Billing Specialist to join our team. This role is essential for managing follow-up and collections, as well as obtaining necessary information for efficient claims processing.
Location: This position is 100% onsite.
Compensation: $21-24 per hour, with potential sign-on bonus.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6am-4pm, with flexibility.
Job Type: Direct Hire
Key Responsibilities:
- Assign specific codes to medical procedures and diagnoses for billing and reimbursement purposes.
- Gather and verify patient data, including demographics, insurance details, and medical history.
- Compile and submit claims to insurance companies and governmental entities for payment processing.
- Pursue unpaid claims, address denials, and resolve related issues, resubmitting claims as necessary.
- Engage with patients to address inquiries and concerns regarding their bills and available payment options.
- Stay informed about evolving healthcare regulations, insurance policies, and billing protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions and patient data.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare laws and regulations governing billing and privacy.
- Demonstrate proficiency in insurance collections, including negotiating payment arrangements and handling correspondence.
- Support collection efforts through patient calls, assessing eligibility for charity programs, and arranging payment plans.
- Conduct comprehensive account reviews, including tracing missing information and updating insurance details.
- Possess a strong working knowledge of HCPCS, CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes, as well as medical terminology.
- Understand billing requirements for various payers and assist in educating staff on billing prerequisites.
- Communicate effectively with payers regarding outstanding claims and ensure compliant claim processing.
- Adhere to the Company's Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Undergraduate Degree or associated certificates preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in medical billing/collections required.
- Basic proficiency in Excel required.
