Job Overview:
As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, orderly, and secure environment within assigned school facilities, adhering to a structured cleaning schedule while performing various related tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform floor maintenance including sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and sealing.
  • Vacuum carpets and rugs to ensure cleanliness.
  • Dust, wash, and polish furniture and woodwork to maintain a pristine appearance.
  • Empty and sanitize waste receptacles, including trash bins.
  • Clean restrooms, locker rooms, and shower facilities.
  • Wash windows and walls, polish metal fixtures, and clean chalkboards.
  • Rearrange furniture and equipment to prepare multipurpose rooms or classrooms for events.
  • Replace light bulbs and lighting tubes as necessary.
  • Maintain window coverings, such as drapes and blinds.
  • Collect paper and debris from school grounds and surrounding areas.
  • Sweep adjacent concrete surfaces to maintain cleanliness.
  • Respond to emergency clean-up situations resulting from spills, breakage, or vandalism.
  • Manage flag protocols and secure gates and doors, including setting security systems.
  • Assist in the distribution of supplies and equipment.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks to ensure safety and functionality of assigned areas.
  • Report and help prevent facility vandalism.

Qualifications:
Knowledge:
Familiarity with basic cleaning methods, procedures, and techniques; understanding of cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment; awareness of safe working practices.

Skills:
Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual tasks; proficient use of cleaning materials and equipment; capability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Experience and Education:
A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is acceptable. Typically, this includes:
Experience: A minimum of six months in building and facility maintenance.
Education: Completion of high school or equivalent.

Physical Demands:
This position requires standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Regular tasks include moving furniture, handling cleaning equipment, and performing various manual activities.

Environmental Conditions:
The role involves both indoor and outdoor work, with exposure to various environmental factors such as noise and cleaning chemicals. Protective gear such as gloves and safety glasses may be required.
