The Department of Chemistry at Virginia State University is seeking a highly qualified Organic Chemist to join our faculty. As a tenure-track Assistant Professor, you will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in organic chemistry, developing a research program, and contributing to the department's mission to provide quality and challenging academic programs in chemistry.
Responsibilities:
• Teach undergraduate courses in organic chemistry, including lecture and laboratory sections.
• Develop and maintain a research program, including mentoring undergraduate students and securing external funding.
• Contribute to the department's mission by participating in departmental and university service, such as committee work and curriculum development.
Requirements:
• Earned a Doctorate in Organic Chemistry or a related field at the time of hire.
• Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence, with prior teaching experience preferred.
• Ability to develop a research program, with prior experience leading undergraduates in research and demonstrated ability to write fundable grants preferred.
• Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills to work with a diverse array of students and colleagues.
• Computer literacy skills, including basic knowledge of operating systems and word processing, and a working knowledge of computational chemistry.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior teaching experience, preferred.
• Prior experience leading undergraduates in research and demonstrated ability to write fundable grants, preferred.
• Demonstrated computer literacy and a working knowledge of computational chemistry, preferred.
