Position Overview

The selected candidate will act as a key facilitator, ensuring the seamless integration of business processes and software functionalities. This role is crucial in establishing the necessary operational frameworks to support the deployment of new and enhanced information technology systems. The individual will be recognized as the functional authority on the Patient Information Management System (PIMS) core package and will provide training on additional service packages.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties may include:
  • Deliver training and support for clinical and administrative personnel regarding business processes and related software.
  • Oversee various software applications essential to the effective management and operations of the organization.
  • Coordinate and provide training for facility staff in business and functional areas concerning various information technology VISTA packages.
  • Ensure all information technology equipment within the service is operational and effective.
  • Collaborate with relevant offices to maintain the accuracy of medical center workload data in VISTA.
  • Verify the precision of reports, including gains and losses and AMIS reports.
  • Conduct testing of new options and software versions prior to rollout to familiarize with new features and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Engage in the development of administrative quality standards aimed at enhancing programs, facilities, and operations.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with various program officials.
  • Facilitate ongoing data collection and basic analysis, utilizing knowledge of System Redesign principles to assess organizational performance.
  • Develop, monitor, and disseminate outcome measures, including clinical data and satisfaction metrics for patients and staff.
  • Plan and oversee data validation initiatives.
  • Prepare regular and ad-hoc reports for presentations within the service and other committees.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Standard business hours, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM.

Telework: Available on an ad-hoc basis.

Position Description: Medical Management Specialist

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet all qualifications by the closing date of the announcement.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Current Federal employees must have held a GS grade within the past 52 weeks to meet time-in-grade requirements.

Specialized Experience: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level or higher in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. This experience should include: 1. Assisting with administrative tasks for a program; 2. Knowledge of VA healthcare programs, rules, and procedures; 3. Skills in coordinating operations of a Medical Center and effective communication; 4. Proficiency in utilizing computer applications.

Education Substitution: Candidates may substitute education for experience with one full year of graduate-level education.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience and education beyond a bachelor's degree may also qualify candidates for this position.

Physical Requirements: The role is primarily office-based with occasional visits to various areas within the medical center. The work is mostly sedentary, although it may involve periods of significant mental stress due to workload and time constraints.
