Healthcare Billing Specialist

Estrella Health and Rehab Center, a reputable Skilled Nursing Facility, is seeking a dedicated Healthcare Billing Specialist to join our dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a stable industry while contributing to the financial health of our organization.
Compensation: $18.00 per hour
As a Healthcare Billing Specialist, you will gain valuable insights into the complexities of healthcare insurance and enhance your understanding of accounting principles. You will receive comprehensive training alongside our Assistant Business Office Manager, ensuring that robust internal controls are established and maintained to protect our facility's assets.
Key Responsibilities:
The primary focus of this position is to support the daily accounting operations of the facility, adhering to established accounting standards and reimbursement principles relevant to long-term care. Your contributions will be essential to the facility's success in billing and follow-up activities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring and following up on insurance claims.
- Processing cash postings.
- Conducting insurance eligibility checks.
- Managing RFMS Trust and private billing.
- Providing assistance to front desk reception as needed.
- Delivering excellent customer service to residents and their families.
- Understanding of healthcare reimbursement, billing, and accounting principles.
- Ability to manage and track direct spending and labor budgets.
- Familiarity with basic nursing practices, procedures, terminology, laws, and regulations applicable to long-term care.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a BA degree in Accounting or Business is preferred.

• A minimum of six months of experience in a long-term care setting is preferred.
In collaboration with the Assistant Business Office Manager (ABOM), you will:
- Establish and maintain financial records for all residents concerning admissions, billing, and collections in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Prepare accurate and timely billing for routine and ancillary services to various payors, including state agencies and Medicare.
- Actively manage the collection process for the facility.
- Maintain current documentation of facility licenses and insurance coverage.
- Complete necessary documentation and update system data related to cash receipts and daily census activities.
- Review payment policies with new admissions and their responsible parties.
- Document business office processes continuously.
- Administer and reconcile resident trust accounts and petty cash monthly.
- Perform month-end closing procedures and prepare required reports.
