Job Summary:
Reporting to the Food Services Manager, the Lead Food Service Worker plays a pivotal role in the kitchen, cafeteria, and patient services. This position is responsible for directing and prioritizing daily operations within a designated area of Nutrition Services.

The Lead Food Service Worker also takes on cashier responsibilities, ensuring accurate cash handling and fostering positive customer interactions during assigned shifts.

This role includes ensuring adequate staffing and resolving issues to uphold departmental standards, including sanitation and customer service. Additionally, the Lead Food Service Worker is tasked with training and orienting new staff members, assembling and delivering patient meal trays, and preparing special dietary orders.


Key Responsibilities:

The essential functions listed below are not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary:

  • Effectively performs food preparation duties while assembling food and beverages on the tray line, ensuring smooth operations and proper portion control.
  • Adheres to all HACCP guidelines.
  • Directs and prioritizes daily workflows, ensuring adequate staffing and resolving any issues that arise.
  • Trains and orients new employees.
  • Assists with the timely delivery and setup of catering events and handles cashiering duties as needed.
  • Maintains cleanliness in the dining area and workspaces, and assists with stocking supplies in the cafeteria and kitchen.
  • Operates, assembles, disassembles, disinfects, and cleans kitchen equipment, as well as washing pots, pans, dishes, and utensils.
  • Processes priority meal services and delivers food to patients promptly, following established protocols.
  • Handles cafeteria payments and ensures timely delivery of catering services while maintaining cleanliness of dishes.

Qualifications:

All final candidates must successfully complete an FBI fingerprinting process to comply with cash handling policies.

  • Proficient in balancing currency, coins, checks, and credit card transactions.
  • Must meet bonding requirements for cashiering duties.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant food preparation and service experience.
  • Knowledge of kitchen sanitation practices.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Requests for time off must be included in the application; no time off will be permitted during the first two weeks of employment.
