Position Summary:

The Mobile Unit Medical Support Specialist operates under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, playing a crucial role in ensuring smooth patient operations and high-quality care during clinic hours. This position collaborates with a diverse healthcare team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, patient service representatives, medical records personnel, health educators, and social workers, to deliver comprehensive and compassionate care to underserved populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide essential support to the medical assistant team, encompassing all medical assistant duties.
  2. Facilitate patient intake, financial assessments, and preparation for appointments.
  3. Assist in training medical and laboratory assistants, as well as volunteer staff, on health education and laboratory procedures, while offering ongoing supervision.
  4. Support medication refill requests, specialty referrals, and pre/post clinic chart reviews as needed.
  5. Review patient charts, lab results, and encounter forms for accuracy and necessary follow-up actions.
  6. Collaborate with the Clinic Manager to oversee dispensary logs and storage, ensuring quality assurance standards are met.
  7. Manage inventory, ordering, and maintenance of medical supplies.
  8. Provide coverage for other medical assistants during sick or vacation leave.
  9. Participate in daily and monthly quality assurance evaluations, including emergency kit checks.
  10. Maintain logs for refrigerator and freezer temperatures.
  11. Order vaccines as required.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other related tasks as directed by the Clinic Manager to support organizational goals.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday: Starting times vary between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, with ending times between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
  • Occasional Saturday work may be required.
  • Travel to various clinics may be necessary for meetings or work assignments.

Qualifications, Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college education preferred.
  • Completion of a medical assistant training program is required.
  • Phlebotomy certification is advantageous.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in an outpatient medical clinic or hospital setting is required.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.

  • Frequent hand and finger dexterity for fine motor tasks.
