Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the Branch Manager or Field Leader, the primary role of the Specimen Collection Specialist is to ensure that all collection processes are executed accurately and punctually in the field.

It is essential to maintain a secure and professional atmosphere for both clients and staff, confidently performing all aspects of testing, including specimen collection and processing duties in accordance with established protocols.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all specimens are collected in a timely and precise manner.
  • Conduct collections following established procedures in compliance with DOT guidelines 49 CFR-Part 40.
  • Perform random and emergency observed urine collections for same-sex clients as required.
  • Collect specimens for drug screenings and other services offered by Quest Diagnostics.
  • Accurately complete Chain of Custody (COC) forms and Alcohol Testing Forms.
  • Label specimens appropriately and ensure timely submission of COC and Alcohol Testing Forms to the designated location.
  • Package specimens for transport and ship them to the lab as indicated in work orders.
  • Utilize the correct forms for various collection types.
  • Safely and promptly transport specimens, supplies, and materials to their intended destinations.
  • Maintain thorough records of each specimen collected.
  • Support the Record Deletion process as directed by management.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to clients.
  • Adhere to DOT Guidelines for Breath Alcohol and Urine collections.
  • Maintain all necessary collection logs, accuracy logs, calibrations, and certifications.
  • Correct any collection errors within a 24-hour timeframe.
  • Submit accurate time and travel logs as directed by management.
  • Follow departmental grooming and dress code policies, ensuring a neat and professional appearance.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, employees, and the general public.
  • Report any discrepancies to the appropriate Manager/Supervisor immediately.
  • Ensure equipment is well-maintained and report any necessary repairs.
  • Keep necessary supplies stocked and request replenishment as needed.
  • Participate in team activities and special events as requested.
  • Be flexible with travel and work hours, maintaining an updated availability schedule.
Qualifications:
Required Work Experience:
DOT Certification and any necessary documentation must be provided prior to a job offer.
Preferred Work Experience:
Certification as a BAT/Urine Collector is preferred.
Mental and Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, drive, and lift up to 10 pounds. Strong focus on tasks at hand is essential.
Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required. Flexibility and availability based on staffing needs are crucial. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage patient and employee concerns professionally are necessary. Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software are required. Decision-making based on established procedures and good judgment is essential. Access to a cell phone and computer with scanning, printing, and faxing capabilities is necessary.
Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
Licenses and Certifications:
A valid driver's license is required.
