Specimen Collection Specialist

Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Branch Manager or Field Leader, the primary role of the Specimen Collection Specialist is to ensure that collections are conducted accurately and punctually in the field.
It is essential to maintain a secure and professional atmosphere for both clients and staff while confidently executing all aspects of testing, including specimen collection and processing duties in accordance with established protocols.
Key Responsibilities:- Ensure timely and accurate collection of specimens.
- Collect specimens following established procedures, adhering to DOT guidelines 49 CFR-Part 40.
- Conduct random and emergency observed urine collections for same-sex clients as required.
- Collect specimens for drug screenings and other services offered by Quest Diagnostics.
- Complete Chain of Custody (COC) forms and Alcohol Testing Forms with precision.
- Label specimens as necessary and ensure timely submission of COC and Alcohol Testing Forms to the designated location.
- Package specimens for transport and ship them to the laboratory as indicated on work orders.
- Utilize the correct forms for various collection types.
- Safely and promptly transport specimens, supplies, and materials to their intended destinations.
- Maintain comprehensive records of each specimen collected.
- Support the Record Deletion process as directed by management.
- Provide excellent customer service to clients.
- Adhere to DOT Guidelines for Breath Alcohol and Urine collections.
- Maintain all relevant collection logs, accuracy logs, calibrations, and certifications.
- Correct any collection errors within a 24-hour timeframe.
- Submit accurate time and travel logs as directed by management.
- Ensure compliance with departmental and company grooming and dress code policies.
- Communicate effectively with clients, employees, and the general public.
- Report any discrepancies to the appropriate Manager/Supervisor immediately.
- Participate in team efforts and special events as requested.
- Maintain flexibility in travel and work hours, including a willingness to travel up to a 100-mile radius.
Required Work Experience:
DOT Certification and any necessary documentation must be provided prior to employment.
Preferred Work Experience:
Certification as a BAT/Urine Collector is preferred.
Mental and Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, drive, and lift up to 10 pounds. Strong focus on tasks at hand is essential.
Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required. Flexibility and availability based on staffing needs are crucial. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage patient and employee concerns professionally are necessary. Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software are required. Decision-making based on established procedures and sound judgment is expected. Access to a cell phone and computer with scanning, printing, and faxing capabilities is necessary.
Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
Licenses and Certifications:
A valid driver's license is required.
