As an INSET Recovery Specialist - Full Time (Intensive and Sustained Engagement and Teams), you will collaborate with individuals to help them achieve their recovery objectives by offering tailored supports and services. This position focuses on assisting those who experience frequent acute distress, recurrent emergency room visits, and hospitalizations, particularly when previous care programs have not yielded positive outcomes.

To excel as an INSET Recovery Specialist, you should possess personal lived experience as a former or current user of mental health services and be open to self-disclosure when necessary. A Bachelor's Degree in a human services discipline from an accredited institution or a comparable combination of education and experience, including at least two years in the mental health or social services sector, is required. Additionally, a commitment to completing all prerequisites for New York State Certification as a Peer Specialist is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver mobile, community-oriented, flexible, and sustained interventions to assist individuals experiencing acute distress and frequent hospitalizations.
  • Address immediate needs while fostering and enhancing family and social networks to provide ongoing support for participants in achieving their specific goals.
  • Provide direct outreach and assistance to adults diagnosed with behavioral health conditions.
  • Collaborate with participants on their recovery goals, both individually and in group settings within the broader Orange/Sullivan communities.
  • Facilitate connections to necessary professional, recovery, peer, family, and other natural supports within the community.
  • Promote recovery by delivering services that embody our core values, which include respect for individual rights, self-determination, choice, shared decision-making, and collaboration.
  • Offer individual peer support and maintain collaborative records for approximately 10-15 individuals.
  • Ensure regular participant engagement through community outreach, individual support, group facilitation, and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Develop familiarity with all relevant community resources related to physical and behavioral health, substance abuse treatment, employment, education, housing, and social supports, proactively facilitating connections for participants.
  • Organize and co-facilitate social network meetings for participants as requested.
  • Maintain a full-time schedule that may include two evenings per week and one weekend day.
  • Assist individuals in transitioning from respite, emergency rooms, incarceration, hospitalization, and other institutional settings to independent community living.
  • Utilize Strengths-Based Assessment tools, Advanced Directives, and create Wellness/Recovery Plans as desired by participants.
  • Note that this list of responsibilities is not exhaustive; additional duties and/or training may be assigned or required.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM, with occasional weekend availability.

Compensation:

  • $21.39/hr - $22.00/hr

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited institution or a comparable combination of education and work experience, including at least two years in the mental health/social services field.
  • Must be a peer with personal lived experience as a former or current user of mental health services and/or personal recovery, comfortable with self-disclosure as necessary.
  • Willingness to fulfill all requirements for New York State Certification as a Peer Specialist.
  • Prior knowledge and/or experience with Trauma-Informed, Person-Centered Practices, and Motivational Interviewing skills.
  • Understanding of the recovery process and the ability to facilitate recovery using established mental health practices and peer-driven self-help alternatives.
  • Familiarity with community resources in Orange and Sullivan County for individuals diagnosed with mental health or co-occurring conditions.
  • Ability to teach and engage individuals in basic problem-solving strategies to support self-directed recovery.
  • Knowledge of signs of psychiatric crises and skills in peer engagement and de-escalation techniques.
  • Proficiency in using an Electronic Health Record system.
