Position Overview

The Agricultural Operations Specialist plays a crucial role in the success of CSS Farms by executing agronomic processes pertinent to potato cultivation, enabling informed decision-making on the farm.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you will:
  • Assist the Agronomist in commercial crop production through routine scouting and practical fieldwork.
  • Examine, monitor, and report on pest and disease activity.
  • Evaluate plant development and gather and report in-season data.
  • Conduct soil and plant tissue sampling.
  • Contribute to the quality assurance of farm operations, including seed handling and cutting, planter spacing accuracy, and test digs.
  • Perform laboratory tasks that support storage management and decision-making, such as conducting quality and bruise-free assessments.
  • Support research and development initiatives.
  • Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as required.
Physical Requirements

This role involves extensive interaction with the land and requires significant time spent in the field, which includes:
  • Frequent walking and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Repetitive bending, kneeling, and digging.
  • Driving between farm locations to transport samples and supplies.
  • Regularly lifting items (such as potato samples) weighing up to 50 lbs.
Work Schedule
  • Standard working hours are from 7 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays.
  • During peak harvest and planting seasons, longer hours and weekend work may be necessary.
Required Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one and pass vehicle insurance verification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant coursework in agriculture.
  • Basic proficiency with technology, including computer skills and the use of scouting applications.
  • Strong organizational skills and a commitment to accurate sampling and reporting.
  • Basic mathematical skills and the ability to maintain precise counts.
  • Knowledge or experience in agricultural operations is advantageous.
