Job Summary

The Agronomist role is a critical position that contributes to the success of CSS Farms by supporting agronomic operations on a large-scale commercial farm. This role involves working closely with the land, conducting regular scouting and hands-on field work, and collaborating with the team to achieve optimal crop production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commercial Crop Production
    • Monitor crops for insect and disease issues, ensuring timely interventions to prevent damage.
    • Assist with scheduling irrigation, optimizing water usage and crop health.
  • Crop Sampling and Analysis
    • Sample plant tissue and soil during the growing season for fertility management, providing data-driven insights for informed decision-making.
    • Assist with fertilizer recommendations, ensuring optimal nutrient levels for crop growth.
  • Quality Control and Assurance
    • Contribute to quality control on farm operations, ensuring adherence to best practices and standards.
    • Perform test digs to estimate yield and monitor quality, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Supervision and Team Management
    • Provide daily supervision of Agronomy Tech(s) and/or seasonal employees, ensuring effective communication and task management.
  • Chemical and Fertilizer Management
    • Assist with fertilizer/chemical management and applications, ensuring compliance with regulations and safety protocols.
  • Storage Management and Research
    • Facilitate storage management, ensuring optimal conditions for crop storage and handling.
    • Support research and development efforts, contributing to the advancement of agronomic practices and crop production methods.
Requirements
  • Education and Certifications
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy or a closely related field.
    • Private applicators license or the ability to obtain one in chemigation/fumigation.
  • Skills and Experience
    • Demonstrated experience and success working as an agronomist, preferably with potatoes.
    • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft applications.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
