Program Aide Job Summary

At the YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge, we are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Program Aide to join our summer camp team. As a Program Aide, you will play a vital role in providing leadership, guidance, and support to our campers, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Supervise a group of children, ensuring their overall health and well-being, and providing attentive supervision at all times.
  2. Take daily attendance and maintain accurate records.
  3. Ensure the camp site and equipment are clean and well-maintained.
  4. Implement engaging and developmentally appropriate program activities that align with YMCA values.
  5. Adhere to program standards regarding safety, cleanliness, and licensing protocols.
  6. Attend trainings and staff meetings with summer camp leadership.
  7. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical emergencies, behavior policy implementation, and child abuse prevention.
  8. Cultivate positive relationships with parents, children, and staff, modeling relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  9. Maintain ongoing communication with the Program Lead and Director.
  10. Set up for and clean up after all camp activities.
Requirements:
  1. Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
  2. Six months of programmatic experience with children, preferably in a camp setting, is preferred.
  3. Must complete 24 hours of training to meet licensing standards.
  4. Preferred CPR/First-Aid certification; training will be provided if not certified.
  5. Exceptional group management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  6. Experience in creating, planning, and facilitating interactive and educational activities is preferred.
  7. Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Must be capable of implementing directives related to the daily program.
  9. Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  1. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  2. Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and supervise/ participate in program activities.
