Salary

The estimated salary range for this position is $55,000 - $80,000 per year, based on factors such as relevant experience, education, certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Compensation is competitive, and we offer a comprehensive benefits package to support staff and their families.

Job Description

We seek a dedicated Humanities Educator to join our team of experienced professionals. As a High School History Teacher Specialist, you will work closely with department teams to foster self-guided learners. You will become an expert in your course content and develop strategies to motivate and inspire high school students. Your classes will emphasize textual analysis, analytical writing, and discourse to empower students' voices and develop them into global citizens.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a curriculum prioritizing World, US History, American Government, and Economics in preparation for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate level coursework.
  • Guide students to understand authors' claims and the power of sourcing while developing skills of argumentation, corroboration, inquiry, and historiography through primary and secondary source analysis.
  • Work with the History department to determine academic and engagement goals for students.
  • Partner with students' families to ensure appropriate resources are available to support their child's learning needs.
  • Participate in weekly school-wide meetings to cultivate community, model core values, and encourage student achievement.

  • Demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred).
  • Academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or the Humanities.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; teacher certification not required but must meet NJ state certification eligibility requirements.
