Job Overview:

We are seeking a Head of Trading Technology for our Crypto Trading division.

The Position

The Director of Trading Engineering will focus on the creation and delivery of high-quality, timely, and maintainable software solutions within an agile framework that align with both functional and non-functional business needs. This role requires engagement with partners and stakeholders, as well as support for design and release processes. It is a hands-on position, emphasizing individual contribution.

  • Crafting and executing technological solutions for the Fidelity Digital AssetsSM business
  • Developing high-performance algorithms for trading and cryptocurrency transactions
  • Collaborating closely with business partners to drive critical initiatives
  • Showcasing software engineering excellence through practices like continuous integration and deployment
  • Staying updated with IT frameworks and technologies that enhance productivity; mentoring junior team members on technology
  • Working alongside diverse stakeholders and large cross-functional teams to deliver projects
  • Contributing to innovative solutions that boost productivity
  • Actively writing code for product features in this hands-on role
  • Setting the technical direction for software developers by collaborating with other tech leads and architects

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline is required
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in software engineering
  • Strong expertise in designing and developing low-latency trading systems
  • Familiarity with WebSocket and FIX protocols
  • Experience in constructing matching engines, OMS/EMS, or exchange connectivity platforms
  • Knowledge of kernel bypass technologies, such as Solarflare OpenOnLoad
  • Extensive experience with modern Java, utilizing zero GC patterns
  • Proficient in ultra-low latency design patterns and optimizing trading systems
  • Hands-on experience with low-latency messaging products like Aeron, Solace, or 29West
  • Proficient in SQL and knowledgeable about relational and time-series databases
  • Experience in designing APIs, distributed systems, asynchronous workers, and resilient messaging services
  • Understanding of microservice architecture and cloud-based deployments
  • Ability to develop reliable software capable of functioning in unstable environments
  • Capacity to provide leadership and mentorship within small, agile teams in a collaborative setting
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
  • Interest in and experience with cryptocurrencies, along with a commitment to staying informed in the field
  • Drive and capability to deliver software with a high level of automation
  • Proficient with version control systems and adept at managing multiple releases simultaneously
  • Willingness to contribute to organizational-level innovation
  • A learning mindset with the ability to demonstrate versatility beyond specialization
  • Effective collaboration with both partners and project team members
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies or iterative development processes
  • Knowledge of acceptance test-driven development is a plus

As a senior engineer, you will play a vital role in the Trading Team, developing your skills and collaborating across Fidelity teams in a dynamic, iterative environment. The Fidelity Digital Asset Trading Team is responsible for platform services and APIs that facilitate cryptocurrency trading. The platform includes a crossing engine and a smart router to connect and process client orders with various exchanges and liquidity providers. In addition to aggregating market data and routing orders, the platform features multiple user interfaces and services to support its operations.
