Job Overview:
This position is responsible for defining and spearheading the engineering strategy for intricate features that yield substantial business results.

Key responsibilities include delivering sophisticated features and technologies, enhancing development efficiencies, providing technical thought leadership through multiple software implementations, and applying both depth and breadth across various technical competencies.

Furthermore, this role is accountable for comprehensive solution design and delivery.

Department Specific Summary:


We are seeking to hire a Lead Software Engineer to oversee the development and establishment of shared services for Equities Cash Technology on a global scale.

The objective of Shared Services is to identify, enhance, and implement top-tier reusable solutions for common challenges across Equity Trading applications, thereby minimizing redundancy and fragility while reinforcing the overall infrastructure of the platform.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive practical experience in Electronic Trading of Equities, proficient in both C++ and Java, and have a strong enthusiasm for modern software architecture and development methodologies.

Additionally, this role will contribute to the design of our low latency smart order router and market-making products.

The selected individual will play a pivotal role within our Equities Cash Trading Technology team, collaborating with various partners across the organization, including senior leadership.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that the design and engineering strategy for complex features aligns with the broader portfolio solution.
  • Define the technology stack for the solution and assess new testing tools/frameworks/practices for the team(s).
  • Empower team(s)/applications with Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD) capabilities and engage with other technical stakeholders to ensure the efficient operation of the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Guide and influence team(s) on design and best practices for high code performance, including pairing and code reviews.
  • Deliver complex features end-to-end, including automation, for either a single team or multiple teams at the program level.
  • Conduct research, design prototyping, and other exploratory activities, such as evaluating new toolsets and components for release management, CI/CD, and features.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish high-level solution requirements and work with architects on technical specifications.
  • Drive the Equities Cash Technology Shared Services strategy, aiming to significantly reduce redundancy across applications and enable quicker time to market for new trading and analytics use cases.
  • Participate in the technical design and development of the Low Latency Smart Order Router project, which consists of highly efficient C++ components that enhance execution capabilities for both internal and external clients.
  • Engage in the technical design and development of Systematic Risk Trading components and the line of business buildout.
  • Coordinate with the Equity line of business to drive a cohesive strategy that supports multiple workflows across different business lines.
  • Analyze business requirements, formulate architectural designs, oversee cross-team development and testing, and manage production issues.
  • Work closely with our Site Reliability Engineering group to achieve industry-leading reliability and scalability.
  • Develop roadmaps for continuous platform enhancement.

Required Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in both C++ and Java development on Linux.
  • Direct exposure to building Electronic Trading applications.
  • An automation-first mindset throughout the software development lifecycle, particularly regarding shift-left testing.
  • Ability to architect resilient, instrumented, distributed systems that achieve world-class reliability.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development and associated best practices.
  • A proactive, strong-minded individual capable of collaborating closely with project teams in a multifaceted role and fostering a responsible and professional culture.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical partners.

Desired Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of financial asset classes (particularly Equities) and algorithmic trading of these products.
  • Working knowledge in architecting applications for Cloud and/or Containerized Environments.
