OpTech Payroll Specialist II Job Description

At OpTech, we value your ideas, encourage your growth, and always have your back. As a Payroll Specialist II, you will be an integral part of our team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our payroll processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform online edits and corrections to the payroll system, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Communicate with clients' programmers and participate in testing of pay issues to ensure seamless integration.
  • Calculate special check requests and audit requests by departments and HR, maintaining confidentiality and discretion.
  • Process internal adjustments for employees, analyzing past payroll information and calculating proper amounts.
  • Perform complex corrections of the exception time report edits, analyzing errors and executing advanced online corrections in the PeopleSoft system.
  • Review and validate Kronos schedules and timekeeping duties, adhering to payroll guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Answer complex questions via phone inquiries from clients' employees, timekeepers, management personnel, and Human Resources, providing accurate and timely information.
  • Communicate with employees and management regarding questions and concerns related to paychecks and calculations.
  • Process garnishment checks and mail checks with legal statements to requestors, ensuring timely and secure processing.
  • Prepare stop payment and voided checks in a timely manner for reversal and reissue.
  • Process deductions from employee paychecks, such as union dues, pharmacy, vendor sales, and Gold Coast.
  • Calculate incorrect payments and process necessary adjustments to recover overpayment amounts from employees' paychecks.
  • Independently select, interpret, and apply proper codes, rules, and regulations related to payroll transactions in the PeopleSoft system.
  • Collaborate with the Payroll Analyst and Accounting team to ensure proper allocations to the general ledger.
  • Ensure confidential information is handled securely and maintained according to company guidelines.
  • Correct 'no-time' edits for employees listed as active on the master file but show no time recorded.
  • Able to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and available for overtime as needed.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
  • Payroll certification (FPC or CPP) preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of related payroll experience required. Previous hospital experience highly desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge of PeopleSoft and Kronos systems payroll and timekeeping.
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving/judgment skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Tact and discretion required in regards to security of PeopleSoft and Kronos, as well as exposure to confidential and sensitive information.
  • Excellent organizational skills required to maintain documents, records, logs, and track in CRM system.
  • Able to manage self and prioritize workload to maximize efficiencies, multi-task, and execute multiple simultaneous assignments.
  • Team player with courteous and professional demeanor, excellent communication and customer service skills, and ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions.
  • Exceptional work ethics.
