Role Responsibilities

This position involves performing significant human resources-related tasks within the Human Resources Division. Responsibilities include managing sensitive information while maintaining confidentiality and engaging with management, employees, retirees, healthcare providers, and various agencies. The HR Specialist will follow established procedures and will receive training to work independently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitating employee forums, new hire orientations, and other HR activities.
  • Managing personnel transactions and insurance information through automated systems.
  • Maintaining electronic employment applications and personnel records.
  • Conducting pre-employment processes, including background checks and I-9 verifications.
  • Researching and analyzing HR issues, providing recommendations, and preparing reports.
  • Administering employee health benefits, including open enrollment and status changes.
  • Collaborating with employees and managers to manage Family Medical Leave (FMLA) and related programs.
  • Updating HR databases and serving as a point of contact for specific HR programs.
  • Representing the department at job fairs and benefits events.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in any field. Relevant work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Experience: No prior experience required.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license required for driving state vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Human Resources, particularly in onboarding processes.

  • Understanding of federal and state HR laws and regulations.
  • Familiarity with HR management systems.
  • Proficiency in applicable computer systems and applications.

  • Experience in managing confidential records and reports.
  • Ability to interpret relevant information.
  • Demonstrated capacity to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
Physical Requirements:
  • Sedentary work: Ability to lift up to 10 lbs occasionally.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Repetitive motion involving wrists and hands.
  • Close visual acuity for data entry and extensive reading.
