Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Operations and Maintenance Specialist to join our team at a municipal class-4, 15-MGD conventional filtration surface water treatment plant with ozone. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining the plant's equipment, performing field tests, monitoring operating conditions, and diagnosing basic operational problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment manually and through instrument panels and computer terminals.
  • Perform field tests (chemical and physical) to pace chemical dosages for process control units or alter unit processes.
  • Monitor and observe operating conditions, record observations and data, and diagnose basic operational problems and take corrective action.
  • Follow process control procedures for assigned areas, verify and report suspected malfunctions and variances to Manager.
  • Prepare chemical solutions, monitor process chemical supplies, and recommend reorder.
  • Sample water and solids according to schedule.
  • Perform routine lab tests and routine instrument calibrations.
  • Perform minor maintenance, including routine preventive and corrective maintenance, lubrication, and minor adjustments, and perform basic troubleshooting of equipment, recommend solutions, and, where appropriate, fill out work orders.
  • Operate vehicles for plant operational use.
  • Perform cleanup and housekeeping tasks for work area, tools, equipment, facilities, and grounds.

Work Environment

The Operations and Maintenance Specialist will typically spend 75% of their time in an operations environment and 25% of their time in an office environment. The role may require working outside in inclement weather conditions and driving a company vehicle to perform duties.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Experience within a water treatment environment with knowledge of the methods, techniques, principles, and practices of water treatment are preferred.
  • Certification as a water operator is preferred.
  • Ingenuity and initiative are required to coordinate problem resolution, resolve conflicting priorities, and meet assignment deadlines within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and manage remedial action.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with all levels of personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate, effective, and easily understood written communications and reports.
  • Strong PC skills with proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet management.
  • Proficiency in the care and use of all site-specific, facility-required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).
  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Code of Business Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to respond to 24-hour emergency on-call if required by site.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.

Physical Requirements

The Operations and Maintenance Specialist will be required to stand for 25% of their time, sit for 25% of their time, and walk for 50% of their time. The role may require stooping, kneeling, or crouching and entering confined spaces. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
