Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer

The Structures Company, LLC is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our team in Manassas, Virginia.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the development of vehicle subsystems, from system architecture through integration, ensuring seamless collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Provide subject matter expertise, technical review, design guidance, and mentoring to junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Develop subsystem and component requirements compatible with safety, performance, and business objectives, driving strategic decision-making.
- Design or support the design of various test or prototype systems, leveraging expertise in mechanical systems and aerospace engineering.
- Select and manage suppliers/partners, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality components and services.
- Manage functional and physical interfaces between vehicle subsystems and the vehicle, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
- Perform/review analysis, modeling, and simulation to verify subsystems and components meet performance and safety requirements, driving data-driven decision-making.
- Interact with customers, suppliers, partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure program alignment, fostering strong relationships and effective communication.
- Communicate information about vehicle subsystem design, requirements, and performance between the design team, management, customer, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring seamless information exchange.
- Understand program objectives and requirements to conduct trade studies and define architectures, requirements, and interfaces between subsystems, driving strategic planning and execution.
- Prepare and present at gated design reviews to demonstrate the adequacy of the design, showcasing expertise and confidence.
- B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or related STEM discipline) and 8 or more years of experience in relevant discipline areas (or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience).
- Experience with the aircraft development process and familiarity with aircraft subsystems, ensuring a deep understanding of industry-specific challenges and opportunities.
- Advanced understanding of engineering fundamentals, including mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science.
- A strong work ethic and ability to independently meet and lead the areas described by the responsibilities and essential functions, demonstrating self-motivation and initiative.
- Excellent organization and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and communicate complex technical information.
- Advanced degree preferred, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
- Experience leading the development of aerospace systems, from conceptual design through production, showcasing expertise in program management and leadership.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), certification procedures (especially Part 23), and relevant industry standards, ensuring compliance and regulatory expertise.
- Proficiency with CAD software (NX preferred) and mechanical systems-oriented analysis techniques (stress analysis, multi-body dynamics, thermal, etc.), leveraging expertise in design and analysis tools.
- Licensed Pilot Preferred, demonstrating a passion for aviation and a commitment to safety.
