This role is associated with VSL Electrical, Signing, Lighting, a division of The Lane Construction Corporation. VSL is a specialized contractor delivering comprehensive electrical, signing, and lighting systems solutions tailored for complex and critical infrastructure.

The Mechanical Systems Engineer will assist the Mechanical Supervisor and/or Equipment Manager by diagnosing equipment issues, overseeing equipment performance, and supplying data regarding equipment usage, maintenance, and costs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with the mechanical supervisor, mechanics, electricians, and technicians to troubleshoot equipment issues, aiming to enhance safety, reduce downtime, boost equipment efficiency, and maximize productivity.
  • Ensuring equipment availability and optimal functionality.
  • Coordinating and scheduling preventative maintenance, inspections, and equipment licensing.
  • Assessing predictive maintenance indicators such as oil sample reports, thermal history, and vibration analysis.
  • Monitoring and reporting on equipment utilization.
  • Tracking and reporting fuel consumption metrics.
  • Maintaining the inventory of equipment.
  • Assisting in documenting machine repairs and analyzing historical maintenance records.
  • Managing electronic equipment history records.
  • Overseeing equipment telematics and fleet maintenance software.
  • Cooperating with vendors to ensure timely availability of parts and services.
  • Collaborating with Procurement and Accounts Payable to ensure accurate processing and categorization of requisitions and invoices.
  • Providing supervision during shifts as required.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in plant operations, fleet management, and/or heavy equipment repair is highly preferred.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including extended hours, weekends, or night shifts as necessary.
  • Aptitude for learning and utilizing GPS tracking systems.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Enterprise ERP systems.
