Clinical Nurse Specialist in Wound and Ostomy Care (RN)

Position Overview


We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialist to deliver exceptional wound and ostomy care to patients. This role involves assessing, planning, educating, implementing, and evaluating care tailored to patients of all ages, while emphasizing family-centered approaches and cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients and their families, considering bio-physical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, spiritual, and environmental factors in a systematic manner.
  • Identify educational needs of patients regarding discharge planning, growth and development, nutritional needs, functional status, and pain management.
  • Determine applicable standards of care and practice for each patient, coordinating with healthcare team members to address patient needs effectively.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary rounds and patient care conferences, contributing insights from a wound and ostomy perspective and documenting findings appropriately.
  • Evaluate and document patient responses to treatments, recognizing progress towards desired outcomes and discussing these with patients and families.
  • Implement therapeutic interventions in accordance with established standards of practice and relevant policies.
  • Support patients and families in expressing their feelings and provide necessary psychosocial support.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning in pediatric nursing and WOC nursing, applying new knowledge to enhance individual and team performance.
  • Stay informed by reviewing professional literature and completing continuing education to maintain expertise in WOC nursing.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
  • Current licensure with the Board of Nursing and BLS certification.
  • CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Graduate of a WOC nursing education program accredited by the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses (WOCN) Society or currently enrolled in such a program, with completion expected within six months of starting the role.
Preferred Qualifications

  • CWOCN Certification in Wound/Ostomy/Continence Nursing is preferred but can be obtained post-hire.
