Position Summary

The Anesthesia Technician II embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, adhering to the organization's ethical standards and compliance protocols. This role involves delivering both technical and clinical support to the anesthesia team throughout various anesthesia procedures.

We are looking for skilled individuals who excel in the dynamic atmosphere of the operating room. As an Anesthesia Technician, you will be essential to the daily functions of our healthcare facility, collaborating closely with anesthesia providers to ensure efficient procedures and optimal patient care. Comprehensive training will be provided to help you build a solid foundation in anesthesia technology, ensuring patient safety and comfort during surgical interventions. This role offers a unique chance to gain invaluable experience in the healthcare field while positively impacting patient lives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the surgical team, providing patient care under the supervision of a licensed anesthesia provider. Responsibilities may include:
    • Setting up and operating Cell Saver-Blood Salvage during surgeries.
    • Performing blood draws from patient lines for various tests.
    • Responding to emergencies with clinical and technical support.
    • Assisting with patient transfers and positioning.
    • Placing monitoring equipment and assisting with intubation as directed.
    • Preparing patients for invasive monitoring and confirming patient identification.
    • Verifying blood products in accordance with hospital policies.
    • Assembling IV fluids for infusion under supervision.
    • Ensuring patient security during critical procedures.
    • Transporting patients as needed.
  • Manage Anesthesia Equipment:
    • Prepare, disinfect, and troubleshoot anesthesia-related equipment for procedures.
    • Conduct point-of-care testing related to anesthesiology.
    • Monitor vital signs and manage drug infusion pumps.
    • Maintain inventory levels of anesthesia supplies and equipment.
  • Provide clinical and technical support across various departments within the institution.
  • Participate in continuing education and orient new staff to the role.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned, with a commitment to 24/7 coverage and rotating shifts.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 1-2 years of technical healthcare experience.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Positive attitude and collaborative spirit.
  • Physical capability to lift and move at least 35 lbs.
  • Basic Life Support certification (required upon hire).

Preferred:

  • Certification as an Anesthesia Technician.
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree.
  • A motivation to advance within the medical field.
