About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Accounting and Financial Operations Lead to join our team at Step, a next-generation financial services company. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for leading our accounting and finance operations, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial processes, and partnering with our product, engineering, and data teams to drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Process Improvement: Design and implement scalable accounting processes and controls to support the growth of our current products and upcoming launches.
  • Team Management: Hire and manage a team of accounting and financial operations professionals to support the company's financial needs.
  • Financial Reporting: Own the financial statements and end-to-end close process, including driving an efficient monthly close, building balance sheet reconciliations, flux analysis, financial statement preparation, and reporting deliverables.
  • Audit and Compliance: Develop and drive the annual audit process through coordination of key timelines, deliverables, and final reporting packages.
  • Technical Accounting: Own technical accounting analysis, including the preparation of accounting memos and assessment of complex accounting processes.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of relevant public accounting and/or private industry experience.
  • CPA or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in the monthly close process and exposure to accounting systems and understands how to drive automation and efficiency in these processes.
  • Strong analytical skills and cares deeply about getting things right.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully managing cross-functional initiatives, partnering effectively with technical teams.
  • Fluency with U.S. GAAP and the ability to prepare relevant technical accounting memos.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with internal controls.
  • Ability to be flexible and comfortable with changing requirements.
