**Job Summary:**

SJB Group, a leading transportation consulting firm, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Transportation Engineer to lead our highway and roadway projects. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and managing complex transportation projects, working closely with clients, local and state agencies, and public stakeholders to understand and address local and regional transportation needs.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Lead engineering and planning projects in local areas, ensuring timely completion and high-quality results.
  • Prepare and check detail plans, design calculations, cost estimations, and recommendations prepared by other engineers for completeness, mathematical accuracy, and conformity to engineering practices and standards.
  • Compile and analyze engineering data, preparing conclusions and recommendations to inform project decisions.
  • Design and prepare preliminary and final plans for highways, drainage structures, municipal utilities, roadway lighting, traffic control devices, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and miscellaneous highway facilities.
  • Provide input for the development and maintenance of traffic management policies and procedures.
  • Discuss plans, specifications, and work schedules with contractors, utility companies, and other governmental agencies.
  • Participate in studies to determine the sufficiency of existing highway systems and structures and programming of future construction.
  • Estimate the cost of projects and write contracts and specifications for labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Develop preliminary engineering applications to determine construction feasibility and estimated costs.
  • Meet with representatives of private industry, local organizations, and citizens to discuss proposed highway construction activity.
  • Interpret contracts, specifications, and plans to contractors, subordinates, and the public.
  • Prepare final layout drawings and calculations.
  • Prepare studies and complete designs of highway structures of all classifications.
  • Develop data for public review, hearings, or informational meetings.
  • Determine the validity and reliability of testing methods and procedures.
  • May serve as a quality assurance engineer reviewing plans, testing, or construction for highway projects.
  • Provide a marketing leadership role with emphasis on transportation and planning.
  • Review data and operation analysis in support of development sites (new, expanded, and upgrades), and involving interactions with federal and state/city agencies as well as community organizations.
  • Write and review development proposals and associated transportation and planning studies.

**Requirements:**

  • Professional Civil Engineer with 5+ years' experience working with clients, local/state agencies, elected officials, and public stakeholders to understand and address local and regional transportation needs.
  • Understanding of the transportation planning process is essential.
  • Experience managing transportation planning projects is expected.
  • Must demonstrate excellent technical writing and public speaking skills.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex technical documents and plans.
  • Ability to compose clear, accurate reports.
  • Ability to speak effectively to clients and professional peers.
