Job Summary

PeaceHealth is seeking a highly skilled and organized individual to fill the role of Unit Coordinator - Operating Room. This is a full-time position that requires excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to the operating room team, including preparing and maintaining patient and operational records.
  • Perform general secretarial and clerical duties, such as answering phone calls, responding to emails, and managing multiple threads of communication.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, visitors, and caregivers to facilitate communication and resolve concerns.
  • Coordinate paperwork and records, including pre-admission, receiving admitted patients, and processing discharges, transfers, and expirations.
  • Prepare hospital statistical records and update staffing and communication boards.
  • Manage unit supplies and equipment, including ordering and restocking as needed.
  • Provide clerical support for transcription and medical records maintenance.
  • Orient patients and visitors to the room, unit, and hospital environment, and assist with comfort items in collaboration with other health team members.
Requirements
  • Preferred: Medical terminology and completion of unit secretary/ward clerk course
  • Accredited Secondary Education Program Preferred: Hospitality Management
  • Less than 1 year Preferred: Minimum of six months of clerical and/or secretarial experience
  • Preferred: Experience in a medical-related environment or completed course for unit secretaries
  • Preferred: Computerized health records software experience
  • Preferred: Certified Administrative Professional
Working Conditions
  • Lifting: Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH)
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts)
  • Perform hands-on CPR at least 20 mins using lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA)
  • Ability to move around area with frequent sitting
  • Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently
  • Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently
Environmental Conditions
  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment
Mental/Visual
  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted)
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
