Position Summary:

The Instrument Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the optimal performance of instrumentation and control systems. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, modification, and overhaul of various instrumentation and control systems associated with wastewater treatment and sewerage conveyance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic instrumentation used for measuring and controlling various parameters such as pressure, flow, and temperature.
  • Develop and implement a preventative maintenance program to ensure the reliability of all instrumentation.
  • Maintain an inventory of spare parts and manage inventory records, including ordering necessary components.
  • Update and maintain operating and maintenance documentation as required.
  • Document maintenance and repair activities on equipment and systems.
  • Work on energized equipment related to instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot and repair printed circuit boards and other electronic components.
  • Interpret process, instrument, and ladder diagrams, as well as electronic and pneumatic schematics.
  • Collaborate with external engineers and vendors for the installation and testing of new control systems.
  • Assist in training other personnel on instrumentation and control systems.
  • Maintain fire alarm systems and security equipment.
  • Analyze and maintain data communication systems.
  • Interface with utility companies as necessary.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and engineering workstations for programming and configuring control systems.
  • Employ test equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters for instrument maintenance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

This position involves exposure to various environmental conditions, including outdoor weather, and may require working in confined spaces. The noise level is typically moderate.

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent experience.
  • One to three years of relevant experience in the electronics technology field.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of advanced digital and analog electronics principles.
  • Proficiency in advanced mathematics, including geometry and algebra.
  • Familiarity with computer and control systems.
  • Ability to solder and desolder components without damage.
  • Competence in reading schematics and instrumentation drawings.
  • Effective problem-solving skills for diagnosing and repairing equipment issues.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues and supervisors.

Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license.

Physical Demands:

This role requires the ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working in various positions such as standing, walking, and climbing.
