Role Overview

The AML Compliance Specialist is tasked with scrutinizing both system-generated and manual cases concerning client activities. This role entails managing a portfolio of investigations, conducting thorough analyses, and ensuring cases are resolved in alignment with AML protocols and regulations. Investigations stem from various sources, including automated alerts and manual referrals.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Compile and document findings from case reviews and investigations, preparing comprehensive case files for evaluation (including media search results, transaction records, and internal system search outcomes).
  • Conduct extensive research utilizing available banking systems, online resources, and databases to facilitate the resolution of investigations.
  • Analyze financial statements and transaction data to identify irregular transaction patterns.
  • Engage with additional Points of Contact (POC) as necessary to gather further information supporting the investigation.
  • Maintain detailed records of all research and analysis conducted within the Case Management System.
  • Draft Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and advise on the retention or termination of client relationships, as well as track account closures as needed.
  • Collaborate with various units within the organization, including legal and compliance teams, as well as law enforcement when applicable.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional experience is required.
  • 1-5 years of experience in evaluating customer transactions for potential suspicious activities and conducting AML or financial investigations.
  • Experience in drafting and preparing Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) in compliance with regulatory standards is preferred.
  • CAMS Certification is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with laws governing money laundering, terrorist financing, and related financial crimes, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and the USA PATRIOT Act.
  • A general understanding of compliance in sectors such as Wealth Management and Retail Banking is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management capabilities.
  • Exceptional research skills, including proficiency with online search tools.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Access, MS-PowerPoint, MS-Outlook).
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong follow-up abilities.
  • Self-motivated and organized, with the capacity to work independently without supervision.
