Job Summary:

The City of Merriam is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Life Safety Specialist. This role is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of patrons at our community center, while also promoting a positive and enjoyable experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Exceptional Customer Service: Offer a high level of hospitality to patrons, providing assistance and support as needed.
  • Enforce Facility Policies: Understand and implement all facility rules and regulations to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Guard and Attend to Swimmers: Monitor and supervise swimmers, enforcing rules and policies to prevent accidents and ensure a safe experience.
  • Administer First Aid and Emergency Procedures: Provide first aid, CPR, and emergency response as necessary to ensure the well-being of patrons.
  • Perform Swimming and Rescue Maneuvers: Conduct swimming, diving, and rescue operations to respond to emergencies and maintain a safe environment.
  • Attend Mandatory Trainings: Participate in regular training sessions to stay up-to-date on industry standards and best practices.
  • Inspect and Maintain Pool Equipment: Regularly inspect and evaluate pool equipment, reporting any signs of wear or damage to supervisors.
  • Prevent and Document Accidents: Identify and report potential hazards, and document all accidents to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Perform Light Maintenance Duties: Assist with cleaning and maintenance tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, and emptying trash, to maintain a clean and sanitary environment.
  • Adhere to Industry Standards: Conduct all duties in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to industry standards and best practices.
  • Represent the City of Merriam: Promote the values and mission of the City of Merriam at all times, providing excellent customer service and representing the organization in a positive and professional manner.

Requirements:

  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 15 years of age.
  • Certifications: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or nationally recognized training program; or ability to obtain.
  • CPR Certification: Current American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuer Certification, or ability to obtain.
  • Waterpark Lifeguard Certification: Current American Red Cross Waterpark Lifeguard Certification; or ability to obtain.
  • Swimming Ability: Must be a strong swimmer with the ability to perform rescue functions in water and on land.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions, and communicate effectively with patrons and colleagues.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze situations and use effective judgment in response.
  • Alertness: Ability to remain alert for long periods of time.
  • Environmental Adaptability: Ability to work in a climate-controlled indoor pool environment and in the open-air during summer months.
  • Basic Math Skills: Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Typing Skills: Ability to type with minimal errors.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all members of the public.
