Your Role

As a vital member of our Engineering team, you will assess data and create implementation strategies aimed at optimizing production processes. Your efforts will focus on enhancing efficiencies by minimizing resource waste, which directly influences our operational costs. You will play a crucial role in the manufacturing of our renowned brands, ensuring we meet the expectations of our customers and consumers.

The Automation and Controls Engineering Manager will take charge of defining and refining the company's long-term technology strategy while leading a skilled team of engineers across both hardware and software domains to innovate and design automation solutions. This position entails developing, executing, and overseeing the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) initiatives within our current and future operations. You will guide the evaluation, upkeep, and enhancement of our existing automation and control systems. By merging fundamental controls and process engineering expertise with cutting-edge automation advancements, you will deliver innovative solutions to address real-world manufacturing challenges. Additionally, you will explore external emerging technologies and assess their effectiveness in fulfilling business requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Formulate and execute the manufacturing vision and technology roadmap that aligns with the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) convergence.
  • Make informed technology decisions for automation and present a comprehensive technology roadmap for both immediate and future growth.
  • Leverage deep process engineering knowledge and machine learning capabilities to develop scalable control and manufacturing solutions.
  • Translate business challenges into technological solutions that may involve multiple products and services, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and the technology roadmap.
  • Monitor and analyze external technology trends that could influence the company. Conduct research and case studies on advanced automation technologies and evaluate their feasibility for implementation.
  • Oversee the development of standard software and hardware architectures for all automation projects, collaborating with various teams for synchronized execution.
  • Engage with external partners, including food processing equipment suppliers, academic institutions, and technical consultants, to innovate and validate new systems and technologies.

Qualifications

To excel in this position, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, along with 5+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing industries, particularly in automation and controls design; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 2+ years in a leadership role, including team development and management experience.
  • Proficiency in developing distributed, networked control systems, especially Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions.
  • Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies (green or black belt certification preferred).
  • Familiarity with engineering principles and techniques related to food processing and the meat industry is preferred.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and design challenges.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and training to engineering professionals.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.
