Job Summary

The YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Lifeguard to join our team. As a key member of our aquatic operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas, while creating a positive and engaging atmosphere for our members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pool Safety and Maintenance: Conduct regular pool inspections, ensure proper maintenance of pools, and maintain accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Staff Supervision and Training: Assist the Aquatic Director with staff supervision, training, and development, ensuring that all lifeguards are equipped to provide excellent service and maintain a safe environment.
  • Emergency Response and Procedures: Develop and implement emergency response plans, conduct regular drills, and ensure that all staff are trained to respond to emergency situations.
  • Member Engagement and Service: Provide exceptional customer service to members, respond to their needs, and ensure that they have a positive experience at our facility.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work effectively with other departments, communicate clearly and concisely, and maintain a positive and respectful attitude in all interactions.
Requirements
  • Certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard or YMCA Lifeguard, YMCA V6 Swim Instructor, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Basic First Aid certification.
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of 2 years of experience as a lifeguard or in a related aquatic operations role.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to pass lifeguard water test, remain alert, sit or stand for extended periods, and perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Pool Operators Certification (CPO) and Lifeguard Safety Instructor (LGI): Highly recommended or preferred.
  • Leadership and Communication Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate staff, communicate effectively, and build strong relationships with colleagues and members.
