The Manager of Automation and Controls Engineering will play a key role in defining and refining the company's long-term technology roadmap. You will lead a skilled team of engineers across both hardware and software domains to create and design innovative automation solutions.

This position entails the development, implementation, and management of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) within our current and future operations. You will be instrumental in assessing, maintaining, and upgrading our existing automation and control systems.

In this role, you will merge foundational controls and process engineering expertise with cutting-edge automation advancements, delivering inventive solutions to real-world manufacturing challenges. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Formulating and executing the manufacturing vision and technology roadmap that aligns with the convergence of IIoT.
  • Making informed technology choices for automation and presenting a strategic roadmap for both immediate and future growth.
  • Utilizing deep process engineering knowledge and machine learning capabilities to devise scalable controls and manufacturing solutions.
  • Translating business challenges into technological solutions that encompass various products and services, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Monitoring and analyzing external technology trends that may impact the company, conducting research on leading-edge automation technologies.
  • Establishing standard software and hardware architectures for all automation initiatives, collaborating with multiple teams for coordinated execution.
  • Partnering with external vendors, academic institutions, and technical consultants to innovate and validate new systems and technologies.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, along with 5+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing with a strong emphasis on automation and controls design.
  • A minimum of 2 years in a leadership role, including team development and management.
  • Experience in developing distributed, networked control systems, particularly IIoT solutions.
  • Lean or Six Sigma experience (green or black belt certification preferred).
  • Knowledge of engineering principles related to food processing and the meat industry is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • A collaborative approach to working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role includes providing leadership, guidance, and training to engineering professionals, with responsibilities such as:

  • Conducting interviews, hiring, and training employees.
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Evaluating performance and addressing employee concerns.
