Position Summary:

As a key member of our Engineering division, you will be responsible for analyzing data and formulating implementation strategies aimed at enhancing production processes. Your focus will be on identifying opportunities to increase efficiencies while minimizing waste, which directly influences our operational costs.

You will apply scientific and mathematical principles to design and develop technical projects specifically for the pork and packaged meat sectors. This role involves managing engineering tasks on medium to large-scale projects while leading a small team of engineers. You may also oversee significant portions of more complex projects under the guidance of a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager. The position requires the ability to work autonomously while seeking assistance in more intricate scenarios.

Key Responsibilities:

Design Work:

  • Create initial engineering designs and develop material specifications.
  • Estimate project costs accurately.
  • Conduct design work that includes data research and feasibility studies.
  • Establish design criteria in line with required standards and codes.
  • Validate fieldwork and convert completed projects into as-built documentation.
  • Review engineering submissions from plants for thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Direct project execution by coordinating with equipment vendors and contractors.
  • Manage project timelines by aligning activities with plant personnel and vendors.
  • Collaborate with management and engineering teams to implement strategies and recommendations.

Implementation of Designs:

  • Coordinate with equipment vendors to plan layouts and ensure compliance with utility requirements.
  • Review and suggest modifications to consultants' work products as necessary.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation, including equipment manuals and mechanical/electrical schematics.

Reporting and Proposals:

  • Conduct engineering planning and operational reviews during pre-project assessments.
  • Define project scope, prepare requests for proposals, and assess submissions.
  • Submit management reports by established deadlines.

Bid Review and Project Management:

  • Assist in contract administration and bid package evaluations.
  • Prepare essential project documents, including justifications and budget analyses.
  • Monitor installations to ensure adherence to specifications and budget constraints.
  • Manage assigned budget activities effectively.

Training and Development:

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior Project Engineers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong understanding of fresh pork and meat processing preferred.
  • Familiarity with engineering principles related to food processing is advantageous.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational challenges.
  • Knowledge of project scheduling and construction practices.
  • Project Management and Contract Administration skills are essential.
  • Proficient in engineering economics and AutoCAD.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel, including overnight stays.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based, with exposure to production plant conditions, including varying temperatures and potential hazards.
  • Noise levels may vary, particularly in production areas.

Supervisory Role:

  • This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may lead and mentor Associate and Project Engineers.
