Certified Surgical Technologist Job Description

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a skilled Certified Surgical Technologist to join our team in South Elgin, Illinois.

Job Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Certified Surgical Technologist to assist in the operating room. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing the surgical field, maintaining a safe work environment, and collaborating with the healthcare team to provide excellent patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare the surgical field, including verifying instrument and supply availability and reading scrub tips.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, adhering to regulatory agency standards and hospital policies.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to provide excellent patient care, including assisting with emergency situations and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Participate in the surgical Time Out and ensure all team members agree before proceeding with the procedure.
  • Assist with clean up and turnover upon completion of the case, efficiently utilizing supplies to avoid waste and decrease costs.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a surgical technologist program or 2 years of surgical scrub experience.
  • CPR certification and Certified Surgical Technologist certification within 3 months of employment.
  • Ability to work with exposures to body fluids, waste, and chemicals, radiation, hazardous materials, anesthesia gases, and life-threatening diseases.
  • On-call availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Rotating shifts and ability to move heavy patients and equipment.
