PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Operates under the general supervision of a designated manager to uphold municipal parking regulations. Travels throughout the city limits, utilizing a vehicle, to address parking infractions such as exceeding time limits, meter violations, loading zone misuse, and other parking restrictions on public roadways and alleys by issuing handwritten or electronically produced citations. Offers guidance regarding parking infractions or refers individuals to other resources for information about parking rules and the resolution of associated fines. Engages with business proprietors, delivery personnel, construction workers, service providers, and logistics operators concerning municipal parking policies. Ensures that appropriate permits are displayed in vehicles parked in restricted areas. Maintains accurate records, including parking citations and enforcement activities on a daily basis. Investigates and responds to disputes related to parking citations. Identifies and reports vehicles that require towing due to parking violations or unresolved traffic offenses. Alerts Traffic Engineering about damaged, missing, or necessary parking signage, street markings, parking lines, parking meters, and traffic signals. Observes and reports hazardous conditions that may endanger the public, vehicles, and property. Collaborates with Police Services or Traffic Engineering to conduct focused parking enforcement. Recognizes streets, buildings, and landmarks. Assists the public with directions, addresses, and other inquiries as needed. Tests handheld parking enforcement devices by inputting and retrieving information related to vehicle registration and outstanding parking tickets, reporting the findings.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  1. Assists with the collection of parking meter revenues as required.
  2. Performs other functions (essential or otherwise) as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess clear communication skills, both verbal and written. Requires the ability to operate handheld electronic devices and prepare handwritten citations. Must be capable of using a radio and/or cell phone. Must be able to drive a vehicle. Must be able to navigate public streets, sidewalks, and alleys to various locations throughout the city and patrol for the duration of the workday.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Duties are performed outdoors along urban streets, exposed to dust, fumes, heat, and inclement weather. Involves interaction with the general public, some of whom may be upset. Work schedule may include evenings and weekends.

A high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of customer service or relevant work experience; or any combination of experience and training that enables one to fulfill the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment.
