Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician II to join our team at PeaceHealth. As a Pharmacy Technician II, you will play a critical role in assisting our pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare IVs, PCA's, Epidurals, and labels all IV products under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.
  • Prepare chemotherapeutic intravenous medications as requested, including hazardous drugs as defined by USP 800.
  • Package drugs into unit dose packaging and maintain packaging records.
  • Run fill-lists and prepare medications for Cubies and Pyxis stations.
  • Deliver medications and IVs to patient care areas.
  • Deliver controlled substances to patient care areas, take controlled substance physical inventories, and reconcile substance inventory counts.
  • File completed prescriptions alphabetically on the shelf for patient pickup.
  • Answer the outpatient window and ring out refills when specifically requested to do so by a pharmacist where no counseling is deemed necessary.
  • Fill outpatient prescriptions for pharmacist checking.
  • Operate cash register and related front counter tasks if applicable.
  • Reconstitute medication by adding a specific quantity of distilled water requiring no calculation.
  • Handle nonprofessional phone calls from patients, provider offices, and staff.
  • Enter outpatient prescriptions into the computer and prepare labels for medications to be checked by the pharmacist.
  • Key punch patient charges and credits.
  • Purchase medications from suppliers, check in the order, process invoices, credits, and backorders. Restock medications on the shelves as needed.
  • Inspect medications for outdates in patient care area Pyxis stations on a monthly basis and in central pharmacy as assigned.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities as requested by management.
  • Participate in educational in-services as requested by management.
  • Promote a safety-conscious work environment.
  • Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Accredited Program Required: Pharmacy Technician from a Pharmacy Commission-approved technician training program.
  • Minimum of 1 year Preferred: Experience in hospital pharmacy utilizing unit dose, IV admixtures, and pharmacy computer systems.
  • Preferred: Experience with Excel and Work.
  • Required: Certified Pharmacy Technician - National.
  • Required: Certified Pharmacy Tech - Washington.
Skills
  • Demonstrable customer service skill.
  • Demonstrable mathematical skill.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize workflow in a dynamic and sometimes chaotic environment.
  • Ability to take suggestions, corrections, and directions from the pharmacist.
  • Ability to work cohesively and collaboratively with other healthcare team members.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
Working Conditions
  • Lifting: Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
  • Occasional squatting/kneeling/bending.
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp to perform precise procedures frequently.
  • Frequent reaching.
  • Lift/Carry: Occasionally up to 30 lbs.
  • Push/Pull: Occasionally up to 14 lbs. force.
Environmental Conditions
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Mental/Visual: Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
