Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician II to join our team at PeaceHealth. As a Pharmacy Technician II, you will play a critical role in assisting pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare IVs, PCA's, Epidurals, and labels all IV products under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.
  • Prepare chemotherapeutic intravenous medications as requested, including hazardous drugs as defined by USP 800.
  • Package drugs into unit dose packaging and maintain packaging records.
  • Run fill-lists and prepare medications for Cubies and Pyxis stations.
  • Deliver medications and IVs to patient care areas.
  • Deliver controlled substances to patient care areas, take controlled substance physical inventories, and reconcile substance inventory counts.
  • File completed prescriptions alphabetically on the shelf for patient pickup.
  • Answer the outpatient window and ring out refills when specifically requested to do so by a pharmacist where no counseling is deemed necessary.
  • Fill outpatient prescriptions for pharmacist checking, performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Operate cash register and related front counter tasks if applicable.
  • Reconstitute medication by adding a specific quantity of distilled water requiring no calculation, with accuracy checked and initialed by a licensed pharmacist.
  • Handle nonprofessional phone calls from patients, provider offices, and staff.
  • Enter outpatient prescriptions into the computer and prepare labels for medications to be checked by the pharmacist.
  • Key punch patient charges and credits.
  • Purchase medications from suppliers, check in the order, process invoices, credits, and backorders. Restock medications on the shelves as needed.
  • Inspect medications for outdates in patient care area Pyxis stations on a monthly basis and in central pharmacy as assigned.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities as requested by management.
  • Participate in educational in-services as requested by management.
  • Promote a safety-conscious work environment.
  • Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Accredited Program Required: Pharmacy Technician from a Pharmacy Commission-approved technician training program.
  • Minimum of 1 year Preferred: Experience in hospital pharmacy utilizing unit dose, IV admixtures, and pharmacy computer systems.
  • Preferred: Experience with Excel and Work.
  • Required: Certified Pharmacy Technician - National.
  • Required: Certified Pharmacy Tech - Washington.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to move around the area with occasional sitting, occasional squatting/kneeling/bending, fine motor skills to grasp and perform precise procedures frequently, frequent reaching, and occasional lifting up to 30 lbs. The position also requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, vision and hearing within normal limits, and the ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
