About the Role

Calloway & Associates, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Structural Design Engineer I to join our team in Frankfort, KY. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing structural systems for highway structures, including bridges, culverts, and retaining walls.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform technical engineering tasks, including preparing and reviewing engineering design project calculations for highway structures in accordance with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
  • Detail designs using Microstation and other office tools, and learn under the direct supervision of a Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Review and analyze data, plan details, and shop drawings to ensure accuracy, adherence to design calculations, code, and constructability.
  • Maintain and prepare records and reports, including calculation folders, documentation of code adherence, and cost estimates.
  • Relate and gather information regarding designs by communicating with highway designers, attending project meetings, and using email and phone.
  • Maintain, develop, and check structural design software or tools using spreadsheets, Mathcad, or other formats.
Requirements
  • Civil Engineer degree, preferably in civil engineering.
  • Must have passed the Fundamentals Exam (F/E).
  • Experience and/or interest in structural design (bridges).
  • Structural design of culverts, retaining walls, and bridges in accordance with KYTC (state) requirements and AASHTO LRFD (federal) Bridge Design Specifications.
  • Detailing structures using microstation.
  • Perform designs using Mathcad, MDX, open bridge, pca column, and various other programs.
